José Manuel Torralba
Director of IMDEA Materials Institute and Professor at Universidad Carlos III Madrid, Spain.
Dr. José Manuel Torraba is a Professor of Materials Science and Engineering at Universidad Carlos III of Madrid and Director of IMDEA Materials Institute. He is the most influential researcher in Spain (in the top five in Europe) in the field of Powder Metallurgy (PM), both from a scientific and technological point of view. His research group is the most powerful and undisputed reference among the many that have been created subsequently. He is the only Spanish (and the first European) to be a Fellow of the two main PM societies in the world, the European Powder Metallurgy Association (EPMA) and the American Powder Metallurgy Institute (APMI). The third "non-industrial" European to receive the EPMA's "Special Service Award". The only Spanish to appear in "Sintering Science: A Historical Perspective" (Randall German, 2016). For 25 years he has been the co-director of the Höganäs International Chair (a leading multinational iron powder producer). He has initiated numerous lines of research in PM, covering practically all alloy families and many of the possible PM-forming routes. From a scientific point of view, there is no other Spanish with a better research curriculum linked to this discipline and no other academic with better links to the industrial sector. He has won the most important international awards in the field of materials (FEMS Gold Metal) and powder metallurgy (Ivor-Jenkins Gold Metal).
