Sara Mercedes Barroso is a PhD candidate at the National University of Colombia, Faculty of Mines, Medellín Campus, where her research focuses on calcium phosphate-based materials, particularly mesoporous and magnesium-substituted hydroxyapatite for biomedical applications.

She serves as a university lecturer in extractive metallurgy and materials science, contributing to the education and training of students in these fields. In parallel, she currently holds the position of Scientific Director of Innovation at Fosfatos de Boyacá (Colombia), where she leads research and development initiatives related to phosphate-based materials for fertilizer applications.

Her work bridges academic research and industrial innovation, integrating natural resource processing, advanced materials design, and applications in both agriculture and biomedicine
