Yves Huttel

Senior Scientist, Instituto de Ciencia de Materials de Madrid, Spain.

Dr. Yves Huttel received her doctorate from the Université Paris Sud – Orsay, France in 1995. His career has a strong experimental component linked to the study of low-dimensionality systems. In 2005 he created a new research line at the Instituto de Ciencia de Materials de Madrid (Spain), for the fabrication of nanoparticles using physical methods and the study of their fundamental properties. Since then, he has focused his efforts on manufacturing and studying the fundamental properties of nanoparticles (3-15 nm in diameter) with the aim of contributing to the basic knowledge in the following areas: interparticle interactions, intraparticle diffusion phenomena, magnetic properties of isolated particles and in contact, magneto-optical properties and influence of various matrices in the case of embedded nanoparticles.

He has contributed to the transfer of knowledge to nanotechnology through 3 licensed patents and the creation of two spin-off companies, Next-Tip S.L., and Nanostine S.L. Thanks to the improvement of nanoparticle manufacturing his group can manufacture nanoparticles in ultra-high vacuum conditions with adjustable chemical compositions [1] and structures like core@shell, core@shell@shell [2] thus extending the field of applications of nanoparticle sources. His group is now a well-recognized actor in the field of synthesis of nanoparticles by means of gas aggregation sources and proof of this is the invitation to edit the book Gas Phase Synthesis of Nanoparticles [3].

He is co-author of 5 patents, has published 110 articles in JRC journals, and has given more than 130 presentations at conferences, 23 of them as invited talks (3 of them at the MRS, 1 at the Gordon Research Conference and 1 at the E-MRS) and his h index is 26 with total citations of 2380.
